Starke County Park Board
February 13, 2024
Meeting Minutes
Present: R. Ballard, T. Busch, R. Ritzler & S. Byer
R. Ballard announced the resignation of Karl Swihart from the board stating health and work-related reasons. His presence will be missed.
R. Ritzler made motion, seconded by S. Byer and passed 4-0 to accept the minutes from the January 9, 2024 minutes
T. Williams presented a quote from Heinold & Feller for a 54” and 60” mower. They offer a county discount and are able to service the unit. The total for a 60” would be $6,620.00 and $5,520.00 for the 54”. After much discussion S. Byer made the motion to approve the purchase of the 54” mower, seconded by R. Ritzler and passed 4-0
R. Ballard was contacted by Les Jensen regarding a comment made at the previous meeting assuming he was not licensed and bonded. Mr. Ballard made a public apology for the error and committed that would not happen in the future. Additionally, Mr. Jensen is requesting the opportunity to submit a bid for the installation and removal of the piers for the 2024 season. T. Williams will get bids out and have them to the board for the March meeting. It was discussed that a May 1st date should be considered for installation, weather permitting, so that they will be ready on or before the Memorial Day deadline.
T. Williams discussed the need to consider an additional fee for visitors bringing in boat trailers to the beach stating that it takes up considerable space where the beach would otherwise get gate fees for those spaces. R. Ritzler made motion, seconded by S. Byer and passed 4-0 to implement a fee of $10.00 per trailer with the understanding they will be required to park on the road side, NOT beach side.
